We don't know much about the farmer from the parable of the sower and the seed. But, it sure seems that a lot of seed is wasted. Did you ever want to ask the sower “You been farming long?” It seems like 75% of the seed is eaten, choked out or fried in the sun. What an awful farmer.
But we can’t forget the end result. The text says that the seed that landed on good soil “… came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times
more than was sown.” It was 100x greater than what he
first had
Luke 8:8.
The farmer was faithful and he received more than he started with.
Of course the parable is not about farming, but sharing our faith. What could happen if we “carelessly” shared our faith throughout our day—finding those moments where God can be praised and shared publically in all types of soil around us.
God’s Word won't always take root. The farmer didn't see it take lasting effect 75% of the time. However, when one seed sprouts to grow, it also creates the potential for expontential growth through the fruit that is grown.
I think we might be surprised to see how many seeds would sprout if we sow as we go. Let's be careless farmers.
