Questions for God: Part 5

Recently one of our members asked about: "God's purpose for our conscience & current threats to us living according to our God-informed consciences."

Every human has a conscience, a "built-in by God" judge and guide of human behavior, according to a standard of moral right and wrong. It warns us not to do what we believe to be wrong, and urges us to do what we believe to be right. It approves when we obey it. It accuses and holds us guilty when we disobey it.

Conscience is not an infallible guide of conduct. When aligned with God's revealed Word, it's norm of right and wrong accurately reflect God's standard or moral absolutes. But the conscience may be aligned with a lesser standard of right and wrong, and mislead regarding moral absolutes (1 Timothy 4:2). Satan, our sinful nature and the world entice us to lesser moral standards. The safeguard against this is regular reading and study of the Bible.
