The Messenger

Welcome, Guests, to our worship gathering today.

We are in a season of the year in which we are remembering the lengths to which Jesus went to earn for us a restored relationship with God.  We pray that this will move all of us to grow up in our relationship with Jesus.  If you have questions about this or anything else, please stop by our Welcome Center.  Please feel free to check out anything that might interest you in this Messenger or on our website:  www.st-matthew.org

From the Pastors:

  • You are invited to enhance your relationship with God at a special Lenten worship service Wednesday at 7pm at the Walled Lake campus each Wednesday until Holy Week.  In these worship gatherings, we will consider the Gospel of John’s account of Jesus.  These worship gatherings will be preceded by a light supper and fellowship beginning at 6pm.
  • In Sunday's Congregational Assembly, members enthusiastically voted to extend a Divine Call to Stephanie Genske to serve as our Director of Children's and Family Ministry. Please pray for her discernment, as she determines God's will for her and her family. May our Lord make clear to her where He wishes her to serve.
  • Pastor Rob’s final sermon at St. Matthew will be the weekend of March 24.  A farewell luncheon will be held at the Wixom campus on March 24 beginning at noon.  There will be a gift box available for members to express their appreciation for Rob’s faithful service to God and us. For those unable to attend the farewell luncheon, you may still show your gratitude to Pastor Rob and offer well wishes to the Nelson family by dropping a card with their name, and a monetary gift, as desired, into one of the black boxes (by Sue Baglow's office, in the WL Church Office, and at Wixom), and the gift will be given directly to the Nelson family. In consideration for the family, please remember that gift cards for places in Michigan may not be usable in Nevada. Gifts of cash would be greatly appreciated and checks should be made out to Rob or Nicki Nelson.

It is important that we have adequate time to grieve the “loss” of our beloved Pastor Rob as he moves on to his next Calling.  Without rushing that, it is also important that we move forward in the Call process.  But before a Call Committee can begin its work in earnest, we need to review and update the Ministry Description.

God gave St. Matthew the unique spiritual gifts and talents of Pastor Rob for the “season” of these last ten years.  In many ways, we can see how Pastor Rob is just what God knew we needed for that “season.”

Both of the St. Matthew campuses have been making improvements when it comes to our safety. We, the St. Matthew Lutheran Church (SMLC) Safety Team leadership, are making several enhancements to the premises in order to make our Church as safe, yet still as welcoming, as possible.

When the Executive Board asked me to lead our new Safety Team, I asked myself two things. What is “safety” relative to St. Matthew? What would our “mission” be? Here are my answers to those questions, as well as how I plan to lead this team:

Even after taking the first two steps we can still be stuck in the cycle of failure. So how do we get "unstuck"? How do we get past the barriers of pride, fear, guilt, worry, and doubt that keep us from taking this step? The answer is...we need to take ACTION!
This week at Celebrate Recovery, Justin will present the ACTION lesson as we continue working Principle 3 and Step 3. “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Psalm 143:9)

College Age Summer Mission Trip to Ohio dates are August 11-17. More information and application will be available in March.

It's time to place your Easter flower orders! The church office will be placing Easter flower orders, which you may dedicate "In Honor of", "In loving Memory of", or specify another dedication. You may choose from 6" lilies, 6" tulips (in red, pink, yellow, or lavender), or 6" daffodils. You may pick up an order form at either the front welcome desk or by stopping in the church office. Once completed, please attach payment and drop off in the offering plate on Sunday, or in the office. All orders are due in by Tuesday, April 2nd.

We're excited to offer a customized International Easter celebration to 300+ Internationals. This year it will be family friendly, keeping everyone together, and providing a BBQ picnic theme. It will be BYOB (bring your own blanket, bring your own basket). Families will sit on their blankets in the gym enjoying a BBQ meal while special guest artists engage, entertain and share the good news of Easter with our pre Christian International friends. Would your family or small group like to help? See the volunteer needs listed below.

The Annual Election Process will be upon us shortly and the Nominating Committee is looking for members interested in serving as Officers or Directors on the following ministries:
