The Messenger

Welcome to our guests!

  • Worship is an opportunity for God to once again express His love to us; and for us to love Him back.  We hope that you get a lot of God out of your time with us today.  If you have questions about this or anything else, please stop by our Welcome Center.  Please feel free to check out anything that might interest you in this Messenger or on our website:  www.st-matthew.org
  • If you have questions about religion, you are invited to explore life in Jesus with us at St. Matthew!  Come check out the Christian world view, ask questions, and learn what Christians believe in the “Exploring Christianity” class, which will be offered on Sunday, April 19, from 2-5pm at the Walled Lake campus in room 305.  Child care is available upon request.  To register or for more information on this class, visit our web site or contact the church office at 248-624-7676.
  • For those who want to grow in their relationship with Jesus and become a member of St. Matthew, our four session Membership Class experience will be offered starting on Sunday, April 19, from 2-5pm at the Walled Lake campus in room 304.  To register or for more information on this class, visit our web site or contact the church office at 248-624-7676.

From the Pastors:

  • The Lord moved Pastor Gregory Schlicker to decline the Divine Call for the position of Wixom campus Associate Pastor.  So, the search for a new pastor continues.  If there is a pastor that you’d like to be considered for that position, please complete the form located at any of our worship welcome centers.
  • Small Group Study and Sermon Series: On Feb. 2nd, we begin a new sermon series called "The 9 Arts of Spiritual Conversation" and we are excited for our small groups to participate in the accompanying study. It is centered on how to share your faith with the people around you in a way that is not only loving, but also welcome and effective. If you are not in a small group or are looking to start one, there will be a booth for small group sign-ups in the church welcome center in the last two Sundays of the month. For a brief introduction, click HERE. Leaders: Copies of the study will be available at the welcome center, but has also been shared to your email for preparation or if you need to print yourself.
  • There will be a special Congregational Assembly meeting on February 2 at 12:30 pm in the main worship center of the Walled Lake campus.  The purpose of the meeting will be to prayerfully discern issuing a Divine Call for the position of Director of Children’s and Family Ministry.  The one candidates is Dawn Rupe. One other agenda item is a Foundation Ministry bylaw change eliminating term limits.  A light lunch will be served prior.  Childcare is available upon requests at least a week in advance.
  • The 2020 member offering envelopes are available in the mailboxes at the Walled Lake campus and the welcome center at the Wixom campus.  Thanks for your gifts for the King!  If you don’t see envelopes with your name and you would like some, please contact the church office.
  • 2019 Giving Statements are in member mailboxes starting this weekend. You may pick them up at any time.

St. Matthew - Hearts & Hands Christian Child Development Center at our Wixom Campus is in crucial need to hire Part Time Teacher Assistants for the Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Programs. If you, or someone you know, are fun loving and able to interact well with children, teachers and other staff members please contact Ronda Coe @ 248 624-9525 or ronda.coe@st-matthew.org. The positions are 15 to 29 hours a week, with a 2 to 5 day work week. Must be at least 18 years old.

This week at Celebrate Recovery will be a testimony night! Peggy will share her testimony about struggles with alcohol and codependency. Peggy shares, “I slipped easily into addictive drinking, denying with every glass, that I had a problem. The power of denial that had been holding me down simply walloped me. I’d been living with the maxim, ‘I’m not hurting anyone except myself.’” The truth was, Peggy’s struggle with alcohol came at a cost to her and her family. When asked to serve at Celebrate Recovery, Peggy found herself served by the healing hand of Jesus Christ.

January 12, 2020 (All day)

Please join us in worship January 12, and celebrate God's work through our International Ministry! Twenty five years ago, Pastor Tom Going was integral in the formation of our International Ministry at St. Matthew. This Sunday, Pastor Going will be our Special Guest Preacher at all worship services, as we remember how this ministry began in the midst of tragedy within the Japanese in our area, as we celebrate the simple and organic beginnings of relationships growing, and as we look to the future of this relational ministry in Michigan, in Japan, and around the world.

For the past 8 years, St. Matthew has participated in “Socks of Love”, an outreach providing basic toiletry items to some of the most vulnerable people in our area. This year, we’re partnering with “Elli’s House”, a shelter serving homeless, runaway women involved in human trafficking in Detroit. You can help bless these women by dropping off your donations of chapstick, small pocket tissue packs, travel size deodorant, warm gloves, earmuffs, scarves, and, of course, warm women’s socks. Would you rather give a monetary donation to our “socks of love” mission of the month? Simply place your donation in the offering plate, clearly marked for “Socks of Love”. You may drop off your donations by February 2nd in the lobby at either campus. For more information, head over to st-matthew.org/socksoflove

Our major needs are: Warm women’s socks  |  Monetary Donations  |  Small facial tissue packages  |  Chapstick  |  Travel size deodorant  |  Warm gloves  |  Earmuffs  |  Scarves

If you want to learn more about affirming life and like good food, come join us at our Wixom Campus on Sunday, January 19th at 6:30pm! We'll be screening "Unplanned" (2019); the true story of Abby Johnson and her dramatic transformation from Planned Parenthood “superstar” clinic director to committed pro-life advocate.

The students and staff were very excited that Braedon got to come back to school this week. Your continued prayers for Braedon are appreciated!

2020 Theological Conference February 1, 2020 | LEGACY: Reclaiming a Lost Generation | Our Savior , Lansing 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  |  Christians in general, and Christian families in particular, are under spiritual and cultural attack. As a result, more families are being broken and more individuals, especially the young, are leaving the Church. The typical fight-or-flight reactions can readily be seen: Some churches and individuals embrace the flight response by isolating themselves, while others choose to fight by using Scripture and reason to point fingers.
