The Messenger

Welcome to our Guests!

  • Worship is an opportunity for God to once again express His love to us; and for us to love Him back.  We hope that you get a lot of God out of your time with us today.  If you have questions about this or anything else, please stop by our Welcome Center.  Please feel free to check out anything that might interest you in this Messenger or on our website:  www.st-matthew.org
  • If you have questions about religion, you are invited to explore life in Jesus with us at St. Matthew!  Come check out the Christian world view, ask questions, and learn what Christians believe in the “Exploring Christianity” class, which will be offered on Sunday, September 30, from 4-7pm at the Walled Lake campus in room 305, with supper provided.  Child care is available upon request.  To register or for more information on this class, visit our web site or contact the church office at 248-624-7676.
  • For those who want to grow in their relationship with Jesus and become a member of St. Matthew, our four session Membership Class experience will be offered starting on Sunday, September 30, from 4-7pm at the Walled Lake campus in room 304, with supper provided.  To register or for more information on this class, visit our web site or contact the church office at 248-624-7676.

Let’s Be Good Neighbors
Over the last three years, the Bridge Ministry has been working to create a ministry that (1) gets out into the community (2)  meets a basic need  of people in the community and (3) builds  a relationship with those people with the ultimate goal of sharing Jesus.
Following a model that was very successful at Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland and aligns with our 20/20 Vision, the Bridge Ministry has been developing a proposal for a new ministry at St Matthews called Neighbors Café. This café would provide food, friendship, and support to anyone that visits. The Suspended Meals offered would provide meals to those who have a need for a no cost meal.  It is our hope that through this friendship, a relationship with Jesus can begin.
Before taking this to a future Congregational Assembly for consideration, the Bridge Ministry would like to get your input on this proposal.  So, please join us at a one of the Open Forum meetings listed below, where you can ask questions, learn more about the ministry, and get to know the Bridge Ministry. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at bridge@st-matthew.org or visit neighbors.care

This Tuesday at Celebrate Recovery, we are honored and blessed to have a special “Minimony” night with our very own Danielle, Jan and Todd sharing their mini testimonies about their changed, restored lives through Jesus at Celebrate Recovery. We are proud of Danielle, Jan and Todd for answering the call for leaders to set an example of openness and honesty in sharing their stories. We seek to glorify Jesus and give hope for change to others when we share our stories of grace.

The Bus Tour to visit the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky on October 5 & 6, still has 6 seats available. Details and registration information can be found at the Senior Ministry bulletin board at the Walled Lake Campus. Time is running out. Register now. The St. Matthew Foundation Board manages funds that have been provided by generous donors over the years. These funds are intended to be used for projects not included in the overall yearly budgets. The principal remains in the funds, while a portion of the interest gained each year is distributed via grants - much like an Endowment Fund. These grants have supported items such as new stain for the altar and stage at Walled Lake, library materials for the school, BBQ supplies for Neighbors bridge ministry, furniture and room updates at Wixom, and more!

September 23, 2018 - 12:30pm

"Changing the World, One Child at a Time."

You may still RSVP!

Join us for a special presentation of the MULLY movie at the Walled Lake Campus on September 23, 2018 at 12:30pm. The MULLY movie is the true story of Charles Mully, and how God can use difficult circumstances in a person's life to further His kingdom on earth. A pizza lunch will precede the 80 minute movie, which is appropriate for and of interest to adults and children ages 15 and up.

Afterward, we have the honor of hosting a special guest speaker, Isikah Mwee, a young man currently living in west Michigan, who will share with us how his life was impacted by his time spent in Charles Mully's "Children's Family Orphanage" in Kenya. We will hear how God has worked in Isikah's life.

READ IN MICHIGAN INTOUCH MAGAZINE: "Do School Kits Really Make a Difference?"

We are again collecting school supplies to make kits for Lutheran World Relief. These School Kits are sent all over the world. To the children who receive School Kits, these supplies mean the difference between getting an education or not. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than many families can afford. As you are buying school supplies for your children, please consider purchasing a few extra items. You may donate items individually or put together a complete bag. Last year we completed 130 kits. It would be exciting to exceed that amount this year.

Each School Kit consists of: 4 spiral notebooks, 1 ruler, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 pair of safety scissors, 5 unsharpened pencils secured with rubber band, 5 blue/black pens secured with rubber band, 1 box of 24 crayons, 1 large eraser

In the past, spiral notebooks and scissors were the items we ran out of first. You can bring your donations to your child's classroom (or any classroom) anytime until the end of September. If you would rather donate money, we will be including a check to help with the cost of shipping these bags. Each bag costs $1.40 to ship. If anyone would like to make their own bag, a pattern is available online PDF iconHERE or from Miss Scheiwe. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Scheiwe (wendy.scheiwe@st-matthew.org). Please bring your donations in by September 30, 2018.
