The Messenger

Welcome to our guests!

Worship is an opportunity for God to once again express His love to us; and for us to love Him back.  We hope that you get a lot of God out of your time with us today.  If you have questions about this or anything else, please stop by our Welcome Center.  Please feel free to check out anything that might interest you in this Messenger or on our website:  www.st-matthew.org

From the Pastors:

  • Thanks to all who submitted suggestions for the summer sermon series, “You Asked for It.”  We received many more suggestions than we have dates.  Some suggestions will be incorporated in future sermons.  Here are the selections for this summer:
    • July 21- “Transgender: What does God say about this?”
    • July 28- “Does God want us to baptize babies?”
    • August 4- “What becomes of souls of unborn miscarried or aborted?  How about all the people that never heard how they can be saved?  Does God differentiate between abortion for rape or incest, or even a severely handicapped child?”
    • August 11- “Outreach Enemies: Other Priorities and Satan”
    • August 18- “Why God uses suffering to test and to teach?”
    • August 25- “Can one lose salvation?”
    • September 1- “Is it okay for Christians to use marijuana?”

Altar flowers are being placed this week in the Sanctuary in loving memory of Charles Neiderprim - from Collins/Neiderprim family. God's blessings to all family and friends.

God's blessings on this day of new beginnings with the Baptism of Rylee Ann Sinks (daughter of Derek and Ashley Sinks) on Sunday,July 21, 2019. The private Baptism will be held at the Walled Lake Campus. May God smile upon Rylee Ann Sinks and may He surround her always with His wisdom and love.

This Tuesday night at Celebrate Recovery, Ryan will lead us in the VICTORY lesson, continuing our work with Principle 5 and Step 6 and introducing us to Step 7. By Step 6, we are at that place in our recoveries where we don’t want to live according to our old, harmful patterns. We want to get rid of our hurts, hang-ups and habits. How do we gain victory over and get rid of our defects of character? The good news is that we don’t do it. Step 6 reminds us that only God has the power to remove all our defects of character.

College Age Summer Mission Trip to Ohio dates are August 11-17. More information and applications are available by contacting John. Deadline to sign up is Friday July 26.

The St. Matthew Foundation Board manages funds that have been provided by generous donors over the years.  The funds are invested in and managed by Thrivent Financial, much like a 401k.  These funds are intended to be used for projects not included in the overall yearly budgets.  The principal remains in the funds, while a portion of the interest gained each year is distributed via grants – much like an Endowment fund.  These grants have supported many items in various areas of St. Matthew over the years.

Hours are flexible to your schedule, but there will be an immediate need for workers on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Job description and applications are available at the Walled Lake Welcome Desk and at the Wixom front desk. Please contact Jocelyn Prewett with any questions or inquiries.
