VBS 2017 "Maker Fun Factory"

June 19, 2017 - 9:00am to June 23, 2017 - 12:00pm
Event Location:
Walled Lake Campus

A Huge Thank You to All Maker Fun Factory VBS Volunteers!

What a wonderful week, with hundreds of children and volunteers filling our Walled Lake campus!

A HUGE Thank You to EACH of our AWESOME volunteers! This has been an AMAZING week, as our VBS children learned all about how God made each of us and He will love us always! We had approximately 150 volunteers helping us out this year with around 400 children registered! We could not have run VBS this week without each and every one of you! What an great experience we had in sharing Jesus love and learning how "God is always with us". In addition, a special Thank You to all of the local businesses that donated food and/or coffee for our Volunteers! Biggby Coffee (Maple Park Plaza), McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts (Union Lake Road), Starbucks (14 & Decker), Tim Horton's, and the Bagel Station (Wixom Road), who very generously donated breakfast food and coffee for our Volunteers. God bless each and every one of you!

Participant Information:

The wait is finally over! Our VBS Crew is very excited to welcome the children to St. Matthew's Walled Lake campus to experience Maker Fun Factory, where they will discover they are "Created by God, Built for a Purpose!"

VBS begins promptly at 9:00 am and ends at 12:00 Noon. We welcome any children age 3, by June 1st, through Grade 5. Below are some instructions to help VBS run smoothly for both participants and volunteers. Parents will receive an email with crew information.

  1. Parents of participants are to park in the back ("Hub") parking lot of the church at the drop off and pick up location.
  2. IMPORTANT: All Pre-Registered participants please enter through the side door located next to the fenced-in preschool playground (at the end of the 200 Wing and NOT the main Hub entrance). Our registration team will be there to assist you. If you have questions regarding Crew numbers, names or locations, there will be stations and team members set up with that information before you enter the building.
  3. Walk-in space is extremely limited! We may have space available in some age groups, but we cannot guarantee space availability. Please proceed to the white tent area located in the back parking lot, where our Registration Team will assist you.
  4. All Preschool age children get dropped off and picked up in their assigned classroom. See the attached map for classroom locations.
  5. Elementary age children, Crews 1-12, get dropped off and picked up in the Sanctuary every day. Crews 13-22 get dropped off and picked up in the Gym, with the EXCEPTION of Monday morning, when all Elementary Crews will be dropped off in the Sanctuary. Pick up for Crews 13-22 will still be in the Gym that day.
  6. Please have your child(ren) wear tennis shoes - NO flip flops.  Also, please apply any sunscreen products prior to arriving, as some of the activities will be outside.
  7. Please note: For the safety of your children, switching Crews is not allowed unless approved by the Registration Team and Director. We have taken great care in assigning children to Crews, and need to know where your children are throughout the morning. If there is a concern and a Crew needs to be switched, please see the Registration Team to obtain the necessary approvals. Thank you for your understanding.

Volunteer Information:

Our Dear, Wonderful VBS Volunteers,

We are very excited for VBS, to welcome the hundreds of children and their parents and grandparents and YOU through our doors!

There is very important information here which will help the week run smoothly for everyone, participants and volunteers alike.

First and foremost, we want to thank you for being a part of this ministry! Your role is important! You are important! God will use you in amazing ways this week! Thank you so much for your servant heart!! Your impact will be meaningful and eternal. We may never know how we touch the lives of those who walk through our doors, but know that everything that you do matters and will work for the good of His Kingdom.

Throughout the week, please encourage and point out "God Sightings", places that you see God working through the children and through each other. Reinforce the Bible Points for each day. These are simple ways to keep our focus on Him! It is our sincere hope that, as Volunteers, you experience your own God Sightings and take those Bible Points to heart. We pray that you feel God's love and encouragement through each other as well as through the children.

Bring your joyful hearts to VBS each day around 8:15am. This will give you time to settle in and get to the gym for devotions. (Parking lot helpers, please arrive no later than 8:00am so you can direct the rest of the Volunteers where to park.)

Volunteer devotions begin each day at 8:30am in the Gym. Devotion time is our way of focusing our efforts on Him. Don't forget, your job this week is so important!

After devotions we will have announcements. These are very important as well. Each day there will be important information to pass along. Please listen carefully to the announcements each day.

When you pull into the parking lot, please have your Volunteer Parking pass on your dashboard or somehow visible for our Parking Lot Attendants to direct you. You will be parking in the side lot, and may enter through the 100 Wing doors or the Gym doors.

We will have Volunteer assignments posted in the Gym and in the Narthex/Church Lobby, along with maps. If you are unsure where you are helping, please refer to these signs. There will be "Information Stations" for participants as well, outside the Hub area and in the Narthex. If parents need help, please direct them to these areas, or to the Registration area in the Hub, where we will gladly help them.

Name tags for Volunteers will be in the Gym. Please pick up your name tag and wear it every day. It is very important to identify yourself as a Volunteer!

All Preschool age children get dropped off and picked up in their assigned classroom.
Elementary age children, Crews 1-11, get dropped off and picked up in the Sanctuary every day. Crews 12-22 get dropped off and picked up in the Gym, with the EXCEPTION of Monday morning, when all Elementary Crews will be dropped off in the Sanctuary. Pick up for Crews 12-22 will still be in the Gym that day.

Crew Leaders, Assistants and Helpers, please encourage the children to sing and do the motions for the songs every day. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Participants are picked up at 12:00 noon. Volunteers, please plan to stay until approximately 12:15pm to do basic clean up and prep for the next day.

On Friday, Volunteers are asked to stay to help break down and clean up. It is always amazing to see how quickly the building gets back to "normal" when so many hands are helping! After clean up, there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch until perhaps 1:30 - 2:00pm.

We are showing a movie under the Big Tent on Friday at dusk. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and join the relaxing fun!

And don't forget the Church Picnic and Community Festival under the Big Tent on Sunday starting with worship at 11:00am.

Looking forward to a great week teaching children that they have been "Created by God - Built for a Purpose"!

Blessings on your weekend and your VBS week,
  -  Your St. Matthew VBS Maker Fun Factory Team
