St. Matthew Family and Friends,

Here are the highlights of what you need to know about in ministry this week!

  • We praise God and rejoice to announce that seminarian Austin Wellhousen was assigned the Divine Call as our Wixom campus Associate Pastor. More good news, Austin and wife Claire are expecting their first child! We look forward to them joining our St. Matthew family!
  • Special thanks to the Wixom Pastor Call Committee members for their efforts over the last year: Dan Burns, Lori Bradbury-Schwarz, Clay Donnell, Carrie Herzog, Andy Millspaugh, Jeff Reinhart, and Bill Zehel.
  • Jim Curry 100th Birthday Parade on Sunday, May 3 - cars line up around 1:30pm at It's A Matter of Taste restaurant. Please help us celebrate and honor Jim Curry on his 100th Birthday! Click HERE for all the details.
  • Updated Zoom Worship link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/799892892 . Please use this link for worship. The webinar ID remains the same for joining and phone in.
  • Zoom 5.0 upgrade. Zoom is making changes and updates! Everyone will need to upgrade their Zoom app to version 5.0 before May 30. Please take a moment to upgrade. The link is HERE.
  • Online streaming plans. We have had questions whether we will continue online worship once we are gathering together again, whenever that will be. The answer to that is YES! We are working on what that will mean, gathering expertise, input and resources, and putting together a plan to keep our worship available online. Please be patient as we will likely roll it out in phases and make improvements along the way.
  • Ministry continues in the midst of the pandemic! The church staff is continuing to check in on our members. Thank you for taking time to chat with us or respond to emails. We are going through our records and making phone calls. Thank you Denise denise.fannon@st-matthew.org and Natalie natalie.yanosy@st-matthew.org for caring for our people! Send them a note if you'd like to receive a call. We love hearing from you! If you are needing to get in touch with another member, or one of our Homebound members, they can help you do that as well. Please continue to care for one another, friends!
  • Ministry Monday with our School was a beautiful demonstration of how we can show God's love to others in the midst of the quarantine situation. Please check out the pictures of all of the yard signs on Facebook HERE .
  • The Annual Congregational Assembly is scheduled for May 31 at 1 PM. We are working through the details of how this will happen, using technology as needed. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details.

Please continue to be blessings to one another in the midst of the mess! We lift you in prayer as you face challenges each and every day. Please remember to try and find moments of peace and quiet (sometimes impossible, I know) to just be with God. No matter what chaos may be going on around you, know that God hears your prayers and your cries. I pray that you feel His faithful love for you. Find rest in Him, friends.

Blessings,

Gail Adams, Office & Communications Manager, gail.adams@st-matthew.org

Here are the main points from our April 26th eNews. See the full eNews for additional information - sign up at www.st-matthew.org/signup

St. Matthew Family and Friends,

Please remember to send birthday cards to Jim Curry, on the occasion of his 100th Birthday on May 4! (Our apologies for the misprint stating his birthday is on May 5 - it's actually on May 4!) His address is: 2045 Union Lake Rd, Commerce Twp, MI 48382. Thank you to Pastor Galen Grulke, St. Matthew's Visitation Pastor, for encouraging us to recognize Jim.

As we are Rising Up and Praying for essential workers, we recognize that this situation is difficult for people in so many ways. We want to encourage you to keep encouraging others! We have blank yard signs available (pick up Sunday 12-2) for you to decorate and place in the yard of someone who may need to feel some of God's love. Please join with us for this Ministry Monday event!

If you haven't send a note of welcome to Dawn Rupe, please send an email to childrensministry@st-matthew.org or dawn.rupe@st-matthew.org. Include a short video or photo introducing your family to her! We are so happy to have Dawn in the St. Matthew family.

Thank you for your continued support of ministry. Your support has been encouraging and even overwhelming at times. We are working tirelessly to respond to the constantly changing landscape, and to prepare for the day when we can gather again. We pray for you, friends! Please continue your prayers for each other, for our government leaders, for our community and all those affected by this crisis, and for God to grant us all wisdom as we strive to do His work in the midst of it all. Thank you all for your partnership in ministry. Please reach out to us if we can support you during this time.

Friends, no matter who you are and what you're going through, this is hard! Look for God's grace, give grace to yourself and to others. Remember that God's got this, even though it may not feel like it. Lean on Him and let Him hear your prayers. God is still good in the midst of the chaos.

Blessings,

Gail Adams, Office & Communications Manager gail.adams@st-matthew.org

HOLY WEEK Worship Services (same links and IDs as Midweek and Sunday Services)

Other Ministry Updates

  • Attendance Estimates - While it is impossible at this time to know for certain how many people are tuning in live and watching our recordings, we do know how many Zoom Live connections and phone-ins, Facebook Live watches, Facebook video views, YouTube views we are getting. Because of the nature of this type of ministry, we consider the Live participants watching as a family unit in their living room, family room, kitchen or bedroom. That family unit may have 5 people. That family unit may have only 1 person. In keeping with our traditional "Attendance" numbers, our best estimates of the number of actual people worshiping Live are below. This does not include the many views we are receiving after the Live broadcast is complete. Those numbers add an even greater reach to our ministry. Please encourage your friends, relatives, and neighbors to tune in to our worship, especially with Holy Week upon us. We all need to hear of God's love for us on the cross, and find peace and hope in the cross and the empty tomb. We have had people tuning in across the state and across the country, and actually on the other side of the world! And the phone-in option for those who do not have internet access has been a blessing to many! By God's amazing grace, we have the tools to reach into living rooms around the globe. That is pretty amazing!
    • Wednesday, March 18: 350-450 people
    • Sunday, March 22: 700-800 people
    • Wednesday, March 25: 400-500 people
    • Sunday, March 29:  800-900 people
    • Wednesday, April 1: 375-475 people
  • Ministry still continues! In addition to regular worship, these are highlights of what has been happening in ministry. There is so much more! Please continue to pray for our staff and volunteers as we seek ways to show God's love and keep ministering to those that He has placed before us.
    • Our School is doing an amazing job connecting with and teaching our children using creative methods and online platforms. Mrs. Palka continually inspires through her encouragement, videos (including bedtime stories!), Ministry Mondays, Virtual Spirit Week, Three Word Challenge, and so many other ways. The entire staff is working very hard to keep everyone connected and encouraged, reminded of God's love, and encouraging love for others, as well as keeping students on track academically. Our Admissions Director offers virtual tours of our school, personal contact with families, and is deferring registration fees. If you have not Liked the school Facebook page, please do! See what our teachers and staff are doing and how our families are showing the love of God to those who need to hear and feel it.
    • International Ministry continues to minister to the ladies and children in their classes, many of whom are facing issues that we cannot even imagine, including being sent back to Japan with their children so their husbands can work from home effectively. Our staff and volunteers reach out personally and help them them deal with understanding the current situation and letting them know that God loves them and will get us through this.
    • Hearts & Hands is reaching out to families personally to check in and stay connected, as well as providing resources, devotions, prayers, ideas via email and Facebook.
    • Children's Ministry is sharing devotions on Facebook, lessons via email, and regular personal contact with families. We are actively and excitedly preparing for Dawn Rupe, our new Minister of Children's and Family Life!
    • Youth Ministry is encouraging students and providing creative online games for all.
    • Senior Ministry, Bible Study Leaders, Young Adults, Adult Choir, Worship / Music Teams, and other ministries are meeting via Zoom, connecting through email, Facebook, phone, etc!
    • Celebrate Recovery is hosting online Open Share Groups! See the details HERE.
    • Our Accountant and other critical staff continue to ensure that we are on the right track!
    • The Church Offices of both the Walled Lake and Wixom Campuses and the School Office continue to work offsite on immediate needs and preparing for the day when we all can return!

March 25 Updates (Buildings closed but ministry continues remotely!)

7pm WEDNESDAY WORSHIP DETAILS - Online only

March 23 Updates

Please NOTE, there is NO Monday Night Worship. Sunday recordings are on Zoom YouTube, and Facebook.

In accordance with Governor Whitmer’s March 23 Executive Order, the St. Matthew Walled Lake and Wixom buildings are closing down March 24, 2020 at 12:01 am, through April 13, 2020 at 11:59 pm.

Essential functions of ministry will be done remotely, as much as possible. We have been working diligently in expectation of this possibility, and are well equipped to move ministry offsite. Ministry may look different, but rest assured, God is working through all of this, and our ministry will continue to do His work! We continue to pray for all of you as you are working through your own situations. God will get us through this! “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.” Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

Here are a few key points moving forward:

Walled Lake and Wixom Campus Buildings are Closed Until Start of Business April 14, 2020 - including Hearts & Hands, Day School, and International Ministry.

Worship and School will continue online. Sunday worship via Zoom worked well, and we are evaluating other improvements going forward. The proposed Drive-In Worship and Communion Service are cancelled at this time. Our website will maintain all the links to our telephone and online worship and other resources. Individual ministries are working out ways to continue remotely. Watch for future emails as well.

Contacting St. Matthew - Please use the following methods to contact us.

  • Email (BEST): If you need to contact church or school personnel, please use email as a first means of contact. If you do not have direct emails, please send an email to churchoffice@st-matthew.org or hello@st-matthew.org and we will ensure you connect with the appropriate person or ministry.
  • Phones: Staff will check phone messages regularly, but email is still the best way to communicate, if you are able.
