Every Day is Father's Day

I said Happy Father's day to a dad yesterday and he gave me the quick reminder that for a dad "every day is Father's Day."  The job is never done.  It is a great job and I am happy for it!

A devotion this morning pointed out how important a job I have as a mentor to my kids.   What I say is just as important as what I do.  We often try to brush off the teasing of other kids by saying "sticks and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me."

That's a fallacy.

If the comment comes from a dad it can hurt immensely longer than a broken bone.  It even hurts when after a great success... there are no proud comments.  Have you been trying to prove your worth to a parent because of something they have said or not said long ago?

It is so important for us to build up the body of Christ.  It will always easier to tear it down.  Let's do this with actions and words.

Nurture, guard, and guide the flock of God that is your responsibility … Not domineering as arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons but being examples, patterns, and models of Christian living …. 1 Peter 5:2-3 (Amp)
