Be Prepared - February 27

When I was in scouts I learned the Boy Scout motto… Be Prepared!  The problem was it sure would have been nice to know what I was preparing for.   It would have been nice to know if I needed this 1st Aid training for a medical emergency.   It would have been great to know how making clothes into a flotation device would be useful for saving my life or someone else. I haven’t had a chance to use a lot of what I learned. But I know I am prepared if the need arises.

In Chapter 24, Jesus talks about how people should be prepared for two signs of the end: 1) the destruction of the temple and 2) Christ’s return. He promised that the first sign would happen in the disciples lifetime and the second sign would happen at some point in the future—and not even the Son knows the time Matt. 24:36

These are the signs of the end times and they began with Christ’s arrival and continue today.   We don’t know when the time will come, but what we do know is that we should be prepared.

Sometimes I think we don’t anticipate his return. I know personally that I am not prepared with everything in my life. There are tons of ways that I can be a better husband, father, pastor and child of God. I want to learn to be a better child of God so that I can share the same grace I’ve received from him.

When we are in Christ, his return does not need to be something we fear, but something we look forward to. It can also give us a sense of urgency. Since we have an eternal relationship with him now let’s be sure we make the most of our opportunities to be Jesus in the flesh until he returns again.

Come Lord Jesus!   Amen.
