What the Spirit of God impressed upon my heart in today's reading from John 9-10 (ESV) are these words of Jesus in John 9:39, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”
Here is what hit me: Jesus is saying that, on the one hand, when we admit that we are spiritual blind without divine intervention, Jesus promises that He will give us spiritual insight. On the other hand, when we think that we are spiritually knowledgeable, then our arrogance blinds us from any spiritual enhancements.
The bottom line is clear: I (we) need humble, repentant hearts that seek like a blind man to see spiritual realities and insights. In this way, we are prepared for whatever eye-opening insights that Jesus wants to give us.
