My wife has developed a bit of a reputation among family and close friends. Whenever someone, for example, loses keys, is feeling overwhelmed, or is struggling with challenges, she is known to say, "Did you pray about that?"
As I reflected on our Scripture Reading: Luke 6-7 (ESV), what jumped at me was Luke 6:12, "One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God." Just prior to this, Jesus had healed a man on the Sabbath, which infuriated the religious leaders. What follows this is Jesus' calling of the 12 apostles. So, while we don't know the content of the extended prayer time, we may surmise that it was either about the growing opposition to Him and/or about the momentous selection of the 12 apostles who would be the foundation of the New Testament church.
Regardless, what most strikes me is that Jesus resorted to and deeply engaged in prayer, relying on the Father and imploring His involvement. Now, if Jesus was so involved in prayer, what about me (and you)? It is so easy to be "too busy to pray." It is so easy to think that we can handle life on our own...until it crumbles around us. But if Jesus was such a person of prayer, how can I (we) be any less?
