A young boy was sad because he desperately wanted a new bicycle. Though he had done yardwork for neighbors, he didn't think that he had enough money in his bank account. Imagine how surprised and joyful he was, when his Dad checked his bank account and discovered that he had accumulated more than enough to buy the bicycle.
In a way that is how I felt as I worked through this section of the Bible. The bank account of powerful Jesus is more than enough to handle anything that I am facing.
Ten times in these chapters of Matt. 8-9 (ESV) Jesus does miracles. After the stilling of the storm, his disciples ask, "What kind of man is this?" The answer is that Jesus is no mere man. He is the all-powerful God-man, who healed a faith-filled leper (8:3), healed the servant of a faith-filled Roman centurion (8:13), healed Peter's mother-in law (8:15), calms a storm (8:26), frees two men from demons (8:32), forgives and heals a faith-filled paralytic (9:6), heals a faith-filled sick woman (9:22), raised the daughter of a faith-filled ruler from the dead (9:25), heals two faith-filled blind men (9:29), and casts out a demon from a man who was unable to talk (9:33)-- all with the result that the amazed crowd cried, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel." Indeed, nothing like this has ever been seen because no one like Jesus has ever existed.
That moves me to want to rely on powerful Jesus more; to want to pray with faith on his powerful help in everything that I face because the bank account of powerful Jesus is more than enough to handle anything that I am facing.
