So, why did "a multitude of heavenly hosts" or angels join the one angel's announcement that the Savior Jesus had been born?

That is a question that was discussed by some of the spiritual leaders of our congregation in a recent devotion.  One comment was to this effect: "None of them wanted to miss the momentous moment."  Indeed, as the Apostle Peter writes (1 Pet.1:12), "Even the angels long to look into these things" (that is, the time and circumstances to which the Spirit had caused to be written prophecy of the Messiah's coming, suffering and glory).

It is hard for me (us) to grasp the magnitude of that moment when Jesus, true God and true man, was born of the Virgin Mary.   So great is His love for humanity that Jesus should rescue us by taking on a human nature and serving us.

Oh God, give us eyes to grasp what moved the angelic hosts to celebrate!
