Why All the Angels?

So, why did "a multitude of heavenly hosts" or angels join the one angel's announcement that the Savior Jesus had been born?

The Perfect Christmas Present

 So, do you have all your Christmas shopping done?  (Ok, you can stop laughing...neither do I.)

Spiritually Stalled

Are you stalled...spiritually? The REVEAL Spiritual Life Survey has shown that more than one out of five people (23%) report that they are currently stalled in their spiritual growth. Though only 10% of people from St. Matthew said that they are currently stalled, are you?

The survey of people from St. Matthew showed that the top five reasons people stalled spiritually were:
- because of lack of discipline in spiritual practices;
- letting other activities take precedence;
- conflicting responsibilities;
- lack of accountability/encouragement; and
- emotional issues.

The Truth about Creation

truth project.jpg

Tonight I had an opportunity to watch one of the selections of "The Truth Project." It was one that dealt with the scientific evidence that clearly points to an Intelligent Designer, a Creator; and that clearly undermines the credibility of the theory of evolution. It makes obvious that well-informed evolutionists have "exchanged the truth of God for a lie" (Romans 1:25).

If this is a subject that captivates your curiosity, like it does mine (or if you just got upset by what I wrote), I encourage you to check out "The Truth Projects" presentation of the issue.

Imagine...

$100,000.png

In his book, “It: How Churches and Leaders Can Get It and Keep It,” Craig Groeschel shares this illustration. Imagine if I asked you, “Could you come up with a hundred thousand dollars by the end of this week?” Chances are unless you’re megarich, you’d probably say, “Wutchu talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?” In your mind, I just asked you to do the impossible. You might think, There’s no way I could come up with that kind of cash. I can barely pay my bills.

Questions for God: Part 19

wedding.jpg

Someone recently asked about God's definition of marriage.

Here are relevant portions of an article on Marriage from the Christian Cyclopedia (which can be accessed at http://www.lcms.org/ca/www/cyclopedia/02/ ):

BIBLICAL HISTORY: In the Old Testament (OT) it is implied that marriage is an expression of the will of God (e.g., Gn 2:18–24). OT prophets abundantly defend sexual purity and domestic virtue. Blessings of marriage and evils of impurity are often used figuratively (e.g., Rv 21:2; Ex 34:15–16).

Questions for God: Part 18

alone.jpg

A young person asked, "If I was the last person on earth, would I be able to do anything I want?"

Actually, we don't have to be hypothetical about this because there was a time when there was only one person on earth. His name was Adam. But there was a limitation on what he could do. God knew that the fullness of life could only be experienced when God was the center of human existence. So God gave Adam a simple command regarding not eating from one tree as a tangible way in which Adam could live in humble reliance on God's will for his life.

Will We Get It?

dumb.jpg

Do you like this picture? How dumb!

But that reminds me of the people of God at the time of King Josiah. They were given a golden opportunity to genuinely, honestly, truly repent and be restored to God. Apparently they went through the motions, but didn't engage the heart. After King Josiah died, they rapidly returned to idolatry. And within a generation, their nation was destroyed, the temple was desecrated, and their leaders taken into exile.

Questions for God: Part 17

taxes.jpg

In answer to the question, "If I could ask God anything, what would it be?", a young person in our Christian school wrote, "I would ask God if he could get my family out of paying the government money so we won't have to move and pay the government."

Questions for God: Part 16

hate.jpg

Recently a child asked, "Why do we hate?"

That is a good question,especially since peacemakers and mediators have worked for centuries without being able to eliminate conflict and war. But it is especially a pertinent question to a child who may have seen extreme anger, even hate, between waring or divorcing parents.

While anger is an emotion that even our perfect God has, hate is a sinful aberration of anger. In fact, the Bible says, "Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him" (1 Jn.3:15).
