He Must Become Greater - March 24

Who do people see when you they look at you?  Do they see Jesus shining through you?  Or do they just see one more face in the crowd who's arrogant, cynical, sarcastic, jaded, impatient, always in a hurry, etc., like most of the people they meet each day?

In today's reading from John 3-4 (ESV), when the disciples of John the Baptist see that Jesus is baptizing people on the other side of the Jordan River, they actually go to John and they "tattle on" Jesus!  They don't like the fact that this new guy is stealing their master's thunder!  But John tells them that that's the whole point! They themselves aren't supposed to have any real "thunder" to be stolen!  John and his disciples are supposed to be about nothing but Jesus and bringing attention to Him rather than to themselves!  So John's "joy" was that people were noticing Jesus more and more, and were noticing him less and less.  John was "becoming less"; Jesus was "becoming more" (John 3:30).

Is that your joy too?  Praying to God for help each new day, asking that your own personal character flaws and sinful tendencies could "become less", and that the heart of Jesus could shine through you more visibly and "become more"?  What are some character flaws that you've been struggling with personally that are causing you to blend-in with the crowd so that people aren't seeing Jesus in you?  Pray to God for help with them!  You'd better believe that He can weed them out!  And you'll be a better disciple of Jesus for it!
