Ministries

St. Matthew offers numerous opportunities for you to plug in and be a part of our community.  Below is a category listing of our different types of ministry.

Adult Ministries

At St. Matthew we believe God intends for us to make our spiritual journey together, growing in knowledge of God, in faith and in maturity, caring for one another, serving together with each of us using the talents God has provided uniquely in each of us, sharing the good news of Jesus with others, and enjoying the loving family in Christ of which God has so graciously made us members.

We believe that God has brought us together as His Church because he has a purpose for each of us, and for His Church in the world. We believe that the work of our church leaders is to equip us to live out that purpose. We know that together we can be and do what God has in mind for us, in ways that are better than on our own as individual believers.

Children & Students

Young people are important to us at St. Matthew. The vision of our Children and Student Ministries is to help develop in each young person a deeper, more personal relationship with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to equip them for living out their faith. Children and Student Ministries are offered at both Walled Lake and Wixom campuses and include Sunday School classes and Bible Classes. Many other regular and special events and activities are scheduled throughout the year.

Human Care Ministries

We seek to extend Christ's abundant hope and healing love to our members, friends, and community whenever needs arise. Trained care givers care for the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of individuals during times of change, crisis, and challenge. Care is provided through prayer, listening, healing words, cards, encouragement, and visitation.

International Friends

International Friends offers help and friendship to our international neighbors. All nationalities are welcome. We offer many free classes and activities in easy English, especially for international adults and children. Most of our classes meet in a small group format.

Quality Childcare gives parents a break from children and a chance to enjoy friendships with Americans and other international people. Wonderful friendships are enjoyed by American volunteers and our international neighbors.

Personal help in crisis is also offered – whether it’s help with a traffic accident, pregnancy and childbirth in America, illness or other needs. We seek to share Jesus love with our friends in many ways.

Missions

Jesus gave his final instructions for us in several places in the Bible. We know His plan is for His church to finish His work here, so these instructions are for all of us. God’s plan for creation was that all should live in harmony together, forever. He wants all people to be in a loving relationship with Him, now and for eternity.

The only remedy was for God Himself to come into the world as a real human and real God, in the person of Jesus. This is a message that we declare throughout the world in our Missions ministries.

School Ministries

We love children because Jesus does! We welcome all children to our weekly activities on Sunday morning, to special children’s activities like Vacation Bible School, and to weekly international children’s classes, without cost to them.

We also desire to provide an even more comprehensive opportunity for children to grow in character and spirituality, and in living their lives of faith. This is the reason for the existence of St. Matthew School in Walled Lake and of Hearts and Hands Child Development Center in Wixom. Parents are invited to explore the many benefits of our school and childcare ministries, and to invest in their children’s future by becoming part of our St. Matthew School or Hearts and Hands family.
