Compassionate Caring

Compassionate Caring entails activities that take place outside the church, such as experiencing spiritual friendships, sharing Jesus in my daily life, participating in a mission trip, meeting with a mentor or serving others on my own.

We will be returning to Pontiac on March 23-25 to serve at Grace Centers of Hope, partner with St. Paul Lutheran, and a few surprises.  Applications may be picked up from the youth bulletin boards are are due February 26.

With the economy and pocketbooks tight, Christians are seeking how to help others with their expenses. One way is to volunteer at the Coupon Club! The coupons are arriving every week (pre clipped is very much appreciated) and we gather every 3rd Saturday for just 3 hours to clip and sort coupons. Please mark your calendar for our next gathering on February 18th at 1 pm in room 304. Please RSVP by February 15th due to refreshments being served. If you or someone you know is in need of coupons, please contact Linda Marsh at 734-754-1799 to get on a monthly request list.

St. Matthew is offering a summer college age mission trip to Ohio working with Lutheran Social Services.  This is the same location we have travelled to for several High School Trips.  The dates of the trip are August 5-11, 2012.  Cost will be $100 participant plus evening meals.  We are able to take up to 11 students (students must between the ages of 19-23 to participate).   Students who are interested should email John for an application.  The deadline to apply for this trip will be April 29. Students will be notified May 1 if they are part of the team.

On Thursday, February 9th, a local dentist and his team is reaching out to children in our community in need of dental treatment.  Services include: exams, cleanings, dental films, dental health education, fluoride, fillings, and extractions.  This service is offered to any child under the age of 18 that has not been able to meet their dental needs due to finances.  If you would like to schedule an appointment, please fill out the pre-screening questionaire and email it to the More Information

Plans are to offer 2 summer mission trip opportunities.  We are planning on returning to Ohio in late July or early August, but the big news is a partnership with Cross of Christ Lutheran to be able to participate in their July Haiti Mission Trips (there are 4 one-week long trips).  If you missed the parent/student information meeting and would like more information, please contact John Welte.
